Zoom!® Professional In-office Teeth Whitening
Our Dentists at Dental Choice in Edmonton and Calgary offer the Zoom!® Teeth Whitening System, a professional in-office whitening procedure that can whiten your teeth by an average of eight shades. Home whitening systems cannot compete with our Zoom!® in-office procedure, as we use a higher strength that consumers cannot purchase.
It all begins with a dental consultation. New patients will receive an initial assessment which is included in the price of their Zoom!® procedure. Here we will ensure that Zoom!® is right for you. Depending on whether or not you require a hygiene cleaning, you can then schedule your Zoom!®. Each patient is unique. To learn more about costs and pricing for dental procedures, please contact us.
So how does Zoom!® really work?
Zoom!® Procedure – Consultation
An initial consultation is required, before proceeding with the Zoom!® treatment. During the consultation, we look for many things to assess if you are a good candidate for the Zoom!® treatment:
- When your most recent cleaning was. We always highly recommend cleaning before Zoom!® treatment for best results, because the gel does not penetrate through plaque build-up
- If you have fillings, crowns or veneers, Zoom!® will not whiten those areas
- If you have recession, your teeth may be sensitive to the treatment
- Zoom!® consent form, which requires you not to be on specific medication before proceeding to treatment
Thorough Hygiene Cleaning (highly recommended)
Depending on when your last hygiene cleaning was, we highly recommend a cleaning be done before the Zoom!® in-office whitening procedure to have the best result possible. The prescription-strength gel used in the procedure, called carbamide peroxide, does not penetrate through plaque build-up, so it is very important to have a thorough cleaning with the hygienist before proceeding with the Zoom!®.
Preparation: Gel is applied to each tooth
A retractor is used to protect the lips and cheeks by gently pulling them in a fashion that prevents the carbamide peroxide gel from coming into contact with the lips. The gel is then applied to each tooth.
The Zoom!® LED accelerator is focused on the gel that was applied to the teeth, causing it to break down and release oxygen. The oxygen permeates the teeth and whitens them so that the patient’s smile becomes noticeably brighter. 15 minutes later, the light is removed. Preparation is then repeated (applying gel to teeth again), followed by the Zoom!® LED accelerator for another 15 minutes. These fifteen-minute cycles may be repeated up to four times, which make up the one-hour procedure.
Take Home Trays
After the procedure, your dentist will provide you with a Zoom!® home-use touch-up kit. It includes custom-fitted whitening trays. Be sure to follow all your dentist’s instructions to ensure long-lasting results. The following care guidelines are also recommended:
- Maintain proper oral hygiene, including the use of toothpaste with whitening agents
- Avoid certain foods and beverages like coffee, tea, cola, red wine as well as tobacco products
- Schedule regular teeth cleanings
Zoom!® Whitening in Calgary or Edmonton
Zoom!® teeth whitening is a dental procedure that removes discoloration and staining from the teeth using an LED accelerator light. After applying prescription-strength gel to your teeth, your doctor will use a Zoom!® professional whitening system to pass an LED accelerator over the affected teeth.
Cost of Zoom!® Whitening
As with any procedure, we will endeavor to give you an accurate cost estimate before you proceed with your Zoom!® treatment. Although most patients can expect a standard price for their teeth whitening procedure, there are a few factors that come into play and can influence the pricing.
The most important consideration is the extent of your teeth staining. If your teeth aren’t very dark or staining is minimal, one session will probably be sufficient. However, if your staining is considerably more stubborn, your Dental Choice dentist may advise you to return for an additional Zoom!® treatment. Although this may impact the price, we strive to provide you with your desired results.
Included in the cost of your Zoom!® teeth whitening is the home-use touch-up kit with custom-fitted whitening trays. For more information about the cost of Zoom!® whitening, contact your local Dental Choice office.
How Long Do the Results of Zoom Whitening Last?
The results of Zoom!® teeth whitening are not permanent. How long they last depend on how well you adhere to post whitening dental care instructions.
Does Zoom!® Whitening Have Any Side Effects?
Zoom!® whitening does not have any side effects. However, some people complain of sore gums caused by the gum dams or tooth sensitivity during whitening, but this resolves a few hours after the procedure.
Is Zoom!® Teeth Whitening Safe?
If done correctly by a professional dentist, Zoom!® teeth whitening is one of the safest dental procedures. Dentists use cheek retractors and gum protector dams to prevent the risk of injury. It also uses agents like carbamide peroxide gel, which is safe for human use.
