A DAY IN THE LIFE AS A REGISTERED DENTAL ASSISTANT
My name is Kathy van Grunsven. I have worked for University Dental Choice for 13.5 years. I went into dental assisting school because I am a caring outgoing person that likes to help others. I love being a dental assistant because I get to know my patients, not by just their name in the schedule, but them as a person. I have seen patients go to University, get married, and have kids of their own. I love to hear new things happening in their lives every time I see them. It’s feels like we build a little dental family with our patients.
I have worked with Dr. Scott Kershaw for the last 3.5 years. I really enjoy working with Dr. Kershaw because he cares about his patient’s and staff. He is a kind person that puts his patient’s and staff first, just like me.
Dental assistants perform many tasks ranging like patient care, taking x rays, charting and scheduling appointments. Their duties also include preparing patients for treatment, sterilizing instruments, taking impressions and pouring them. But the most important mandate is to give the best possible patient care. There are many more duties a dental assistant does – my husband seems to think it’s just suction and passing instruments haha. Every dental assistant should be proud of how hard they work to provide the best patients care.
Happy Dental Assistants Week!
“Dr. Kershaw is great! I could not recommend a better dentist. His team works hard to get you in right away and his RDA, Kathy, always remembers my name and bits about me!!”
