On the other hand, the composite resin material used in white fillings is chosen to match the color of the teeth as closely as possible. Silver amalgam fillings are made of mercury, a substance that has been shown to cause harmful effects in humans who are exposed to it at high levels. It is possible that, over time, the mercury in the fillings could leak out of teeth and into the bloodstream, which would then circulate it to the different organs in the body.
